Understanding the Mindset

It has come to my attention that any American born within the last twenty years or so is somewhat disadvantaged to understand the previous fifty years of American history.  Disadvantaged because the Cold War is officially over.  Those of us who spent our entire lifetimes living through the Cold War, however, should realize that it is, in reality, far from over in a lot of ways.  The driving force behind the Cold War was MAD – Mutually Assured Destruction.  That still exists today, so, you see, it really isn’t “over” no matter how much we want to believe it.

Research on the strategy known as MAD is not complete without understanding Reagan’s answer, known as MAS, or Mutually Assured Survival.  The SDI, (Strategic Defense Initiative) project, or “Star Wars” as Reagan’s ridiculers dubbed it, had taken shape in the minds of some strategists as far back as the nineteen sixties, but irrational opposition kept it from becoming a reality until Reagan pushed it through - and he made his case based on MAS.  Without getting too technical here, it seems that Reagan was able to convince enough folks that if the initial attempt at destruction couldn’t attain success, (because we were able to shoot the deadly missiles down before they could annihilate millions), then the result would be mutual survival.  Simple.  Rational.  Logical.

Reagan’s vision, downplayed by the media and his many detractors, was the greatest proposal toward real “hope and change” the world has ever witnessed in modern times.  Instead of being heralded for it, though, he endured much criticism from all sides of the political spectrum and even some in his own administration.  As he laid out his plan to the American people, he said that it would require much time and work to make his vision a reality, and I’m sure he never expected to live to see it, but he probably hoped for more understanding and knowledge of what he was actually proposing to make it further into the future than it has.

Here it is in a nutshell:  Not only did Reagan call on the great resources of America to develop strategic defenses to unimaginable success, but then he pledged to share all that technology with anyone who wanted it – the Soviets included!  It was a perfect plan for worldwide peace!  No longer would countries large and small be at the mercy of deranged dictators and terrorists that would acquire terrible nuclear weapons.

SDI was not for sale at any price, and Reagan refused to let it become a bargaining chip in those arms control negotiations, but he would have shared it with the world.  That is statesmanship, the likes of which, we can only hope to witness in a lifetime!

Barack Obama would have never made it out of Chicago politically if more had truly understood Reagan’s plan for hope and change.

All eyes have been on the presumptive Democrat candidate for president as he has taken his millions in campaign funds and crafted a strange at best, diabolical at worst campaign junket to the Middle East and Europe.  Foregoing his chance to visit our wounded soldiers in Germany with some lame excuse about not using “campaign funds” for such a cause, he chose instead to gather a crowd of two hundred thousand adoring Europeans and make a speech that his adoring fans back home are calling comparable to President Kennedy’s and President Reagan’s in almost the same venue.  Difference is, they had something important to say, they were already presidents, and they were American statesmen.  Obama, on the other hand, is NOT president yet, had absolutely nothing of substance to say, and is, by his own admission, more interested in being viewed as a “citizen of the world” – whatever that means – aren’t we all?  (What was Reagan?  Chopped liver?)

Hey, Obama, the only folks over there that could vote for you are the ones you NEGLECTED to visit!

If I knew absolutely nothing else about this guy, I could easily decide NOT to vote for him based solely on the opinions of our enemies about him.  The entire Muslim world and all our communist enemies are hoping for all they are worth that Obama is the next U.S. President!  Yeah, we’ll all be true citizens of the world if this man gets his way.  We will be under the thumb of all the oppressive dictators the world can muster!  He will proceed to give away this nation’s wealth to an extent that is unimaginable even by today’s standards.  All we can expect for it in return is an ungodly, crushing legacy to place on our progeny.

Oh, and just so you anti-war nuts don’t get too comfortable with your wonder boy candidate – when “peace through strength” is traded for appeasement or bust, the results will be that all the rumors of wars will become reality and this president will have to send everything he has at his disposal, (which may not be a lot by then) against a multitude of enemies – timetables be damned!

I hope all you rappers and other “brothers”, who will vote for Obama simply because the skin color of his father dominated that of his mother, have continued to register for Selective Service – that includes all you potential Ivy League educated elitists – because the word “draft” will take on a whole new meaning for you!  You don’t think so?  Do a little polling among the Democrats if enough of them remain or attain power along with him.  Oh, and I wouldn’t count on Canada to welcome those of you planning to “dodge” this one.  They’ve gotten a little touchy on that subject lately.

Getting back to the last twenty years, anyone born, or at least becoming cognizant after the Cold War was officially “over” is at a disadvantage to understand either the communist threat or the terrorist threat because the bad guys have been dressed up to portray something that does not exist.  Righteous evil.  In fact, many older Americans could not come to grips with that truth either.  You youngsters, at least, have more of a legitimate reason for your ignorance.  You “old hippy” and staunch liberal types do not!  We cannot un-invent the wheel.  Nuclear weapons have been in existence for too long to think they can be eliminated – no matter how much the de-nukers march and protest.  Mutually Assured Destruction IS a reality if someone gets an itchy trigger finger.  Period.  Live with it.  The only rational way to deal with it is SDI, -  Mutually Assured Survival.  I really don’t care how much it costs – that is the only answer.

Obama and the leading Democrat powers that be would see us disarmed first.

I will once again refer to the 1958 Communist Goals, entered into the Congressional Record in 1963, specifically the first three of those goals:

  1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
  2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
  3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament (by) the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

Any of this sounding a bit too familiar to anyone?

Number 4 is quite telling too:

  1. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

Hello!  Who do you think is supplying the worst of our terrorist enemies with technology and weapons for the current wars we are fighting?  Can anyone say, Russia and communist China?

Okay, if you are not creeped out yet, let’s continue on through the list, shall we?

  1. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.
  2. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of communist domination.
  3. Grant recognition of Red China.  Admission of Red China to the U.N.
  4. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Kruschev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.
  5. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.
  6. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

These are just the first ten, folks.  All of these things were either attempted or, in most cases, pulled off without a hitch.  The Cold War “officially ended” after Reagan made it abundantly clear that number 8 above would no longer be tolerated and “Star Wars” was going forward.  He fought people in both parties tooth and nail to make it happen though.

If you are wondering what this has to do with the present terrorist threat from Islamic jihadists, you must not have been paying attention to what was happening while that liberal icon and Reagan’s predecessor, Jimmy Carter was at America’s helm.  You also are probably unaware of the close proximity of beliefs held by Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party and communist philosophy.  Terrorists will always take advantage of weakness and so will hard-line communists.

But they both fear and fall apart against strength and moral power.

That brings us back to number eleven on the list – my personal favorite.  Here it is:

  1. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind.  If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces.  (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow.  Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

This is where it gets real hard for folks like me to understand why this evil organization has been allowed to exist, why that oh so valuable real estate in New York is still standing, and why our own military has been forced to operate under that awful “peace keeping” guise in too many places in the world.  (By the way, the leader is always a communist.)

If anyone wanted a slam-dunk straight into the oval office, all he or she would have to do is advertise one campaign promise – get the United States out of the United Nations and get the U.N. out of the U.S. once and for all!

Let’s get back to those goals now – and remember that they were written in 1958, acknowledged and written into the Congressional record in 1963, and are all but ignored today.

  1. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
  2. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
  3. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. patent office.
  4. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

Wow!  Can you say, BINGO!?  How dense does the American public have to be not to see this stuff?  One down, one to go on that one for sure on number 15.  The loyalty oath thing has gotten a lot of play lately too, eh?  But then, what do I know?  I’m just an old woman who grew up while all this stuff was a pipe dream for those bold communists that dared to dream.

Hang on to your stomachs now.  We’re going back to the list:

  1. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

Yep, that was actually one of the goals.  Civil Rights Leaders were ripe for the plucking and blind to the damage that their fruits could brew up for this country.  When courts began to force people to accept whole groups of people based not on merit but on race, gender, religion, (except Christian religion, of course), and physical and mental attributes, civil rights were in large part made a mockery of.  But that is just one old woman’s opinion of course.

Meanwhile, back to the list:

  1. Get control of the schools.  Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda.  Soften the curriculum.  Get control of the teachers’ associations.  Put the party line in textbooks.
  2. Gain control of all student newspapers.
  3. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations that are under Communist attack.
  4. Infiltrate the press.  Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, and policy-making positions.
  5. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures.

Okay, I hope I don’t have to spell all this out for anyone.  One thing does need to be said though.  We would have already been goners if not for one other thing that Reagan managed to do in the eighties.  Remember the “Fairness Doctrine”?  Because that was stuck down, the “new media” could begin the re-education process that was sorely needed.  Radio was the obvious vehicle to revive that old American favorite – true debate.

Let me just throw this in there while we’re at it.  Thank God there was a Rush Limbaugh with “talent on loan from God” to single handedly lead the voice of conservatism out of the wilderness.  Here’s to you, Rush, for your twenty years of successful national service and congratulations on all your success!

Those who malign Limbaugh, attack his character and motives, and do not understand his basic moral philosophy are probably not understanding this little essay of mine either.  There is nothing we can do about that, but I am optimistic that there are more who do understand and may begin to piece together the importance of getting this message out while we still can.

Some are beginning to get a handle on certain TV and motion picture vehicles, and, I might add, are being rewarded for it.  Fox News makes a valiant effort in many ways – although it certainly is far from untainted by leftists.  Such box office successes as Passion and a few others, and failures of many attempts to show the military and American people in general in anything but a positive light is heartening to say the least.  But we have a long way to go.

Now we are getting into the particulars as we continue with the Communist Goals of 1958:

  1. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression.  An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
  2. Control art critics and directors of art museums.  “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
  3. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
  4. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

Now, we haven’t seen any of this happening, have we?  Hmmmmmm, maybe we ARE all just a bunch of American prudes then, huh?  Even the communists realized back in 1958 that there really WAS such a thing as “American culture” – which so many liberals these days are so quick to discount.

Hang on to your hats, folks, we are just getting started:

  1. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

Let me just interrupt for a moment here – I’ve been called everything but a good person for pointing out that homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity is NOT normal, natural or healthy!  Now, come to find out, the communists already knew all that way back then or else number 26 would not have been included in these goals, would it?

Continuing:

  1. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion.  Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a “religious crutch.”
  2. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

Well, the courts got right on that one, didn’t they?  Oh, and about the “social religion” thing – I recognized that while I was still a child.  Guess my childhood church was infiltrated kinda early.  That is the main reason why I have always steered clear of total acceptance of organized religion.  Religious expression, on the other hand, is one of our basic rights, but the socialist/communist mindset must continue the fight to eliminate it from the culture and landscape of America.  The danger of taking prayer out of school has manifested itself in the shocking moral decline of the country.  Who can disagree with that?

But, as you will see, the communists were just getting warmed up.  The list gets real specific now:

  1. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
  2. Discredit the American Founding Fathers.  Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
  3. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the grounds that it was only minor part of the “big picture.”  Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

No one can argue that all of these have met with unbelievable success in our more than complicit educational system lately.  Is anyone’s face burning yet?

And yet, there’s more:

  1. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture – education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
  2. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
  3. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
  4. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
  5. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
  6. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

See why they had to write all this stuff down?  They knew they faced a daunting task to take down this country, and they knew exactly where they had to strike.

But we aren’t done yet:

  1. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from police to social agencies.  Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand (or treat).
  2. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

This is where I get more than a little nauseated as I think about just how successfully these goals have almost been achieved.  Look closely at these next two goals:

  1. Discredit the family as an institution.  Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
  2. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents.  Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

The next time you liberals hear a conservative try to tell you their deeply held beliefs about family values being the backbone of American culture, cut him a little slack instead of calling him a Christian extremist, bigot, racist, chauvinist, or some such untrue drivel.  After all, if you buy into that stuff, the socialist/communist mindset has worked on you.

The last four of these 1958 Communist Goals illustrate just how important the communists themselves considered America’s influence on the rest of the world.  While the hate America crowd has done everything in its power to make the rest of us feel ashamed of our country and view it in some sort of subjugated role to every other country, know this; America isn’t dead yet, and there are so many of us that the brainwashing hasn’t worked on, I just have to hope that, with God’s continued blessing, we can save this country and our culture for future Americans here and for the benefit of people everywhere.

The final four:

  1. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special interest groups should rise up and use “united force” to solve economic, political, or social problems.
  2. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
  3. Internationalize the Panama Canal.
  4. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike.

These four goals speak for themselves.  If you are unaware of the history behind the Connally reservation, then I would suggest a little research.  This one has been under attack from its very beginning back in 1946.  The list of people who have fought for its repeal would absolutely astound you – Democrats and Republicans.  Some of their reasoning might seem sound on the surface, but that very reasoning simply illuminates the biggest reason why communists put the Connally reservation in its crosshairs from the outset.  It is also illustrative of why America’s resistance to this U.N. World Court idea is critical in the fight for every other nation’s sovereignty.  It is an important tool in everybody’s arsenal to defend freedom from the forces of tyranny.

So, back to the present.  Fifty years after the publication of these Communist Goals, we are seeing with our own eyes the results of this work in progress.  Millions of human lives have been sacrificed in this rampant charge to “control the world” with an ungodly philosophy.  If I am ashamed of anything about my country, it is only for the ignorance and apathy that ever allowed such a philosophy to gain the obvious toehold that it has in this country.  But I am far from willing to toss in the towel, and I know that a multitude of freedom loving Americans, in public and private life, are determined to preserve the real American culture and promote the positive influence our culture and heritage has had and will have on future humanity.

We must realize that the mindset that follows current liberal thought and shuns conservative reminders of limited government can do great harm to our basic freedom through the use of force.  Know it, recognize it, and call it what it is.  Never pander to any group that would put one group of people’s interest over individual freedom, for that carries a cost we cannot afford.  America is a good and compassionate country because of the goodness of her people and their love of individual liberty.  Our friends certainly know that – and our enemies are perhaps even more aware of that fact.
