The School Speech – all in all, it’s a good speech.  Motivational, encouraging, empathetic without being sympathetic – placing the outcome of the country squarely on the kids’ shoulders.  The only negative I see is that while he can say, “What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. What you’re learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.”

He has managed to blame everything he can on the “previous administration” when explaining the existing negatives in our economy etc., etc., etc.  It may be up to the kids to build a better future, but it was up to us (we previous generations) not to squander their resources.  Also it’s the “what they are learning in school today” that has the capacity to sink their future big time.  Just my two cents!

Times and that expert ink squirter, Maureen Dowd, for such a concise picture of Sarah Palin’s recent decision to step down from her governor’s title.  In this piece Ms. Dowd leaves nothing to the imagination about her bias.  My favorite part is that she gets the whole job done so quickly and doesn’t blather on in a stupendous word count like her counter part did for Vanity Fair.  (See below.)  I’ll write a little more on this subject at a later date probably, but suffice it to say, those of us who understand limited government and representative republic understand Palin’s stated and unstated reasons for turning Alaska over to her lieutenant governor at this time.

 

 

Tammy Bruce has a thing or two to say on the subject of McCain camp support of Sanford and trashing of Sarah Palin, that continued this week in the hit piece appearing in Vanity Fair.  (If you haven’t read that one, save your eyes – it’s far too long – probably due to the Pinocchio syndrome brought on by lying!)  But, then, we always did know that McCain attracts strange bedfellows.  Now, let me wrap all of this up for you – Tammy’s article, great as usual.  McCain camp and daughter – suffering from “morality compromised,” a social disease threatening common sense and integrity in today’s world.  Sarah Palin – probably the only reason a large number of us were able to hold our nose and vote for John McCain last November.  P.S.  If she wasn’t a threat, she would be off the radar by now!

There is a lot of sense in Thomas Sowell’s latest, Republicans In the Wilderness – as people are floundering around for a way to defeat the takeover of the left.  It reminds me of when I was first learning to type, (on a typewriter), yes, I’m THAT old!  The first exercise I learned was not about a quick sly fox jumping over a lazy dog – rather, it was simply: Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their party.  Later, strangely enough, the exercise was changed to: Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.  Could it really be that simple?  However, as Mr. Sowell said, and I’ve always believed:

Economics 101, Mr. President, credit means debt – you have your creditors and your debtors – only creditors and debtors alike fall into the debtors category where China is concerned if they are taxpaying American citizens!  Personal debt isn’t any more desirable than national debt except that personally you get to make a choice!  But you are right – it is most assuredly UNSUSTAINABLE!

Miss USA California has been in the news a lot.  Carrie Prejean made the “mistake” of answering a loaded question with her honest opinion.  Since this happened a couple of weeks ago, I thought the whole thing had died down finally, but this recent headline assures me it has not.  Beauty pageants don’t rate a lot of press in my unique point of view, but the latest runaway press coverage on both sides of this issue prompts me to comment.  The headline alone from this story defines what is wrong in America today. 

 

John Tantillo:  Miss USA California Should Quit Or Be Fired

 

Actually, this quote from the article’s author speaks volumes.

 

“It wasn’t that she spoke her mind or answered honestly and this was wrong.   Right and wrong have nothing to do with it.” 

 

I’m sure you know by now that the controversy stems from Miss Prejean’s answer to one of the judges in the pageant, homosexual activist, Perez Hilton, asking her whether she thought all states should allow same sex marriage.  Obviously he did not want her opinion, so he gave her a big fat zero and proceeded to call her unprintable (here anyway) names.  She did not answer the question in a mean and nasty way that anyone should have taken offense to, and she sited the (horrible defense) that according to the way she was raised, she thought marriage should be reserved for opposite sexes.  Well, that cinches it, doesn’t it?  Her parents have influenced her moral thought!!!  We can’t have that in this day and age in socialist/communist/ fascist America – now can we?

 

Some years back another beauty queen got into trouble speaking her moral mind.  You may recall the article I wrote about it, To Be Seen and Not Heard, at the time.  That young lady voiced her support for abstinence, another morally influenced opinion, and received a lot of non-tolerance for her trouble.   

 

 

Biden’s Bodings

 

Vice President Biden took more than his share of ridicule last week when he spouted off about the Swine Flu threat.  With his history of tripping over his own tongue, I guess it was inevitable, but I must agree with the title of this article:

As the author, Michael Goodwyn, says, “What if Biden was right to warn his family to stay away from planes, trains, classrooms and other crowded spaces? Shouldn’t we all give our families the same warning?”

 

Have we really grown so cynical in this country against the “other side” of our political viewpoints that we are willing to dismiss common sense?  And don’t tell me that it’s all about the economics of handling this flu scare – serious economical thought has been tossed to the four winds on every single issue being discussed in today’s America!

He tells it like it is as he describes the hypocrisy of the most enthusiastic supporters of illegal immigrants, such as “editorial staffers and executives at the Times and many of their affluent readers” speaking from a vantage point not likely to be overrun by an influx of “lower class” residents.  The point of the article is to reiterate the fact that Obama is out of touch with all but the most elite of societies everywhere.

With this week’s news of Chrysler’s continuing financial drama on the stage of government influenced bankruptcy, this statement from the non-tarp lenders is a must read.  How dare any government official – but especially this president – tongue lash representatives of private investors who stand up for the multitudes of hard-working American investors currently being shafted by economic circumstances that are precisely the fault of government!  Chrysler has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that two wrongs can never make a right, and government answers to private business problems will never solve anything.

If your head is about to explode, try to hold it together long enough to scan this report.  I’ve written reams about this subject because I don’t think nearly enough people take it seriously as a major problem in this country.  Obviously not if such a difference could be documented in only 10 years!  This is the only concise article I have seen that speaks to both the perceived and real mental health problems in America today.  Too much attention is being paid to treatment of the former while the latter is woefully neglected in my humble opinion!

This provides a little insight into the modern Marine Corp fighting terrorists. This is from a Reconnaissance Marine currently in Afghanistan. He talks like a Marine in the field-and he is worthy of our thoughts and prayers as are all of our military deployed in some God-forsaken place:
 
It's freezing here. I'm sitting on hard, cold dirt between rocks and shrubs at the base of the Hindu Kush mountains along the Dar 'yoi Pomir River watching a hole that leads to a tunnel that leads to a cave. Stake out, my friend, and no pizza delivery for thousands of miles. 
 
I also glance at the area around my ass every ten to fifteen seconds to avoid another scorpion sting. I've actually given up battling the chiggers and sand fleas, but them scorpions give a jolt like a cattle prod. Hurts like a bastard.  The antidote tastes like transmission fluid but God bless the Marine Corps for the five vials of it in my pack. 
 
The one truth the Taliban cannot escape is that, believe it or not, they are human beings, which means they have to eat food and drink water.  That requires couriers and that's where an old bounty hunter like me comes in handy. I track the couriers, locate the tunnel entrances and storage facilities, type the info into the handheld, shoot the coordinates up to the satellite link that tells the air commanders where to drop the hardware, we bash some heads for a while, then I track and record the new movement. 
 
It's all about intelligence. We haven't even brought in the snipers yet.  These scurrying rats have no idea what they're in for. We are but days away from cutting off supply lines and allowing the eradication to begin. 
 
I dream of bin Laden waking up to find me standing over him with my boot on his throat as I spit a bloody ear into his face and plunge my nickel-plated Bowie knife through his frontal lobe. But you know me. I'm a romantic. I've said it before and I'll say it again: This country blows, man. It's not even a country. There are no roads, there's no infrastructure, there's no government. This is an inhospitable, rockpit, shithole ruled by eleventh century warring tribes. There are no jobs here like we know jobs. 
 
Afghanistan offers two ways for a man to support his family: join the opium trade or join the army. That's it. Those are your options. Oh, I forgot, you can also live in a refugee camp and eat plum-sweetened, crushed beetle paste and squirt mud like a goose with stomach flu if that's your idea of a party. But the smell alone of those 'tent cities of the walking dead' is enough to hurl you into the poppy fields to cheerfully scrape bulbs for eighteen hours a day. 
 
I've been living with these Tajiks and Uzbeks and Turkmen and even a couple of Pushtins for over a month and a half now and this much I can say for sure: These guys, all of em, are Huns. Actual, living Huns. They LIVE to fight. It’s what they do. It’s ALL they do. 
 
They have no respect for anything, not for their families or for each other or for themselves. They claw at one another as a way of life. They play polo with dead calves and force their five-year-old sons into human cockfights to defend the family honor. Huns, roaming packs of savage, heartless beasts who feed on each others barbarism. Cavemen with AK  47's. Then again, maybe I'm just cranky. 
 
I'm freezing my ass off on this stupid hill because my lap warmer is running out of juice and I can't recharge it until the sun comes up in a few hours. 
 
Oh yeah! You like to write letters, right? Do me a favor.  Write a letter to CNN and tell Wolf and Anderson and that awful, sneering, pompous Aaron Brown to stop calling the Taliban 'smart.' They are not smart. I suggest CNN invest in a dictionary because the word they are looking for is 'cunning.' The Taliban are cunning, like jackals and hyenas and wolverines. They are sneaky and ruthless and, when confronted, cowardly. They are hateful, malevolent parasites who create nothing and destroy everything else. Smart. Pfft. Yeah, they're real
 smart. 
 
They've spent their entire lives reading only one book (and not a very good one, as books go) and consider hygiene and indoor plumbing to be products of the devil. They're still figuring out how to work a Bic lighter. Talking to a Taliban warrior about improving his quality of life is like trying to teach an ape how to hold a pen; eventually he just gets frustrated and sticks you in the eye with it. 
 
OK, enough. Snuffle will be up soon so I have to get back to my hole.  Covering my tracks in the snow takes a lot of practice but I'm good at it. Please, I tell you and my fellow Americans to turn off the TV sets and move on with your lives. 
 
The story line you are getting from CNN and other news agencies is utter bullshit and designed not to deliver truth but rather to keep you glued to the screen through the commercials. We've got this one under control.  The worst thing you guys can do right now is sit around analyzing what we're doing over here because you have no idea what we're doing and, really, you don't want to know. We are your military and we are doing what you sent us here to do.
